Why At Home?  A Party Philosophy
You don’t need a philosophy to party, but you do need one to write a book and develop a companion website. At Home by Steve Poses and At Home Online are founded on the idea that most of us want to entertain more and just need a little help. Our philosophy can be summed up as follows:

More Parties.
I believe in parties. Parties bring people together. A party doesn’t have to be something grand. As far as I’m concerned, having a friend over for dinner is a party. Dinner with family can be a party. The more parties you have, the closer we are to reaching our mission's goal of increasing home entertaining nationally by 10%. (Yes, that really is our goal.)

Better.
If you’re going to have more parties, you want them to be good—and probably better than they are now. After 15,000 events and 15 million customers, I have tons of advice about improving party quality, from the food to the ambience.

Easier.

If you’re going to have more parties, they need to be easier. As a caterer, I know that your recipes have to be deliciously practical and simple, and I encourage you to try “hybrid entertaining”—that is, rely on what you can buy in addition to what you can cook.

A Good Enough Entertainer
Here’s the single most important part of my philosophy: Home entertaining is about creating a sense of welcome, warmth and hospitality for your guests. It’s not about how good the food is or how beautifully the table is set. It’s not the culinary Olympics or Iron Chef meets Main Street. It’s about human connection and good conversation.

Whatever you do to welcome friends and family into your home is good enough. So relax. Plan. Make an effort. Care. But just do it.

You already are a good enough entertainer.
