More About At Home’s Illustrations by my friend Pascal
First there was Manou and Christina
Before Pascal was my friend, he was Manou’s friend. But before he was Manou’s friend and husband, Manou was Christina’s friend. This was before Christina was my friend and wife. Manou met and married Pascal. Christina met and married me. I met Pascal and now we are friends. Pascal did the amazing, smart and funny illustrations that fill the book and website.
About Pascal
Pascal lives in Brussels most of the time with Manou and their adorable daughter Maelle. (You can see Maelle’s illustration of her dad when you get the book.) Sometimes they live in Brooklyn where they are now. Pascal’s work has appeared in The New Yorker and The New York Times. He has illiustrated the children’s books of Toni Morrison.
Manou’s Boiled Chicken
When we visited Pascal, Manou and Maelle this past winter in Brussels so we could work on the book together, Manou made dinner most nights. Manou is part French and part Cambodian and grew up in Thailand and Paris and she is one terrific cook. I so loved the boiled chicken that Manou served for dinner with a wonderful ginger-garlic relish that I included it in the recipe collection. See page 274 when you get the book.
